Planning: Props

At one point in my video the couple would pick the petals off and throw them in to the water so it would need a few wild flowers to ensure that I can film a few times to ensure that I get the shots and footage I want. Or they would be used when the girl is playing with the flower waiting for her boyfriend to arrive.

I also may use bunting like this to stick on the fence to spell out words or sentences. At the end I will have 'Say Anything' on the bunting and stuck to the fence as an emphasis of the song title.

I would also need paper and pens so I could write some lyrics on the paper and them to the trees. This believe would add a vintage homemade feel to the video which is what I want.

I would want to look like this but with writing on it hanging off a tree.

I would need a phone in it as they would be texting as they go to meet each other. It would show that the couple are up to date with the latest phones and are like stereotypical teenagers.

I would need many pictures of the couple as the photos would feature at many different times throughout the video. I already have many photos already so this would save time and money having to print out photos that could be used in the video.

Planning: Costume

In my music video there would be one costume change. This would mean the costume choice would easier than having many different changes as I would have to ensure that each costume matches the theme and feel of the song.

The Female Character- Field in Winter

I would have the female wearing a winter coat as it would be likely it would be cold due to the fact it would be cold outside. Also because they are walking around in a open space its unlikely they would have gone out in a just a jumper. Also it has a hood in case it rains or snows which shows the practicality of the coat.

I would have the girl wear a thick jumper as it would be cold outside so they would need to be warm as there wouldn't really be any way of getting warm while outside.

I would have her wear a scarf as it would be cold and they would need to keep warm. Also scarfs are seen as quite fashionable so it would suit the character.

I would have her wear leggings as they are going for a walk and she wouldn't want to get her best jeans dirty. They would also be climbing over gates and walking in mud so what the girl wears would need to be practical and mean she can move freely.

I would have her wear these as they are fashionable and easy to walk in and would work well with what she is wearing.

However when I go down to film it may have snowed or rained or could be raining. This would mean converse wouldn't suitable so she would need to wear these to ensure the trainers don't get ruined, as there is a brook where I am filming it means she could get in the water and walk in it.

The Male Character- Field in Winter

I would have the male character wear a hoodie as this would be fashionable and it is more likely that the male would be able to cope with the cold and therefore not need a coat. He would be more likely to wear a simple hoodie.

I would have him wear a simple pair of jeans so if they got dirty it wouldn't be too big of a deal. Also Again they would be fashionable as well as laid back and simple. I think if the male wore joggers then I believe it would give the wrong feel to the video, wearing jeans can be both casual and formal therefore he would look better wearing the jeans.

I would have him wear trainers again not to nice in case they got dirty if its been raining. Also it is unlikely would go in the water so they wouldn't need wellies unlike the girl. The male would need to wear comfy trainer's to ensure they could walk in them and be flexible.

Female character- Field in Summer

As it would be warm I would have her wear this due to the fact it would fit with the summer feel. By having a white top instead of something like grey or black makes it look more summery. As it is a casual video this top would fit very well with the theme.

She would wear causal simple pair of jeans I wouldn't have her wear grey or black jeans as I don't think it will work as well as it would if it was a blue or light blue pair of jeans.

She would wear a pair of causal shoes depending on the weather she may wear sandals instead but if it isn't too warm she would wear these as there easy to move in and wouldn't rub if they went on a walk.

This may be needed depending on the weather, she may not need to wear one. But wearing a leather jacket means she will be warm while out side if she wasn't able to go inside while she was out.

Male Character- Field in Summer

His outfit would be very similar to what it would be in Winter other than the fact he may wear a t shirt instead of a hoodie but it would depend on the weather.

All these costumes either both characters have or could easily get hold of. Such as the trainers both the character own these. For instance the female character doesn't own a pair of wellington boots so this would be cheap and easy to solve.

Change to my idea

Due to a range of reasons and casting issues, I have decided to cast myself. I found in casting myself it would be easier to plan with and make small changes to the filming if I needed to. In changing my cast I would have to change my idea and come up with a new one. I have decided to film at one location in one day this would ensure my continuity would be fine as I wouldn't film one day with it sunny and the next raining which would be a potential problem with my original idea. In filming it in one day in one location I believe the video would look better as it would be lots of location changes and costume changes which would make the video look messy as I found out when I began filming. I have decided to have the characters go meet each other for a walk and then go for a walk around some fields.

Where am I at?

I have until the 27th of March to get my 3 tasks completed. I have decided to organise my time so on a double every Monday I know exactly what I am doing.

19th January: CD
26th January: CD
2nd February: Advert
9th February: Advert
23rd February: Music video
2nd March: Music video
9th March: Music video
16th March: Music video
23rd March: Evaluation

I will try to work to these deadlines to ensure that all my tasks are completed by the 27th.

Construction: Editing my footage

I began importing my footage that id filmed.

I then opened my storyboard to try to match my footage up to how id planned my music video to look.

I then began cutting up my footage to try to make it match my desired ideas.

Evidence of my filming

On the 6th December me and my cast members went out to do some of my filming.

This was when I filmed at an old house.

I then went on to film in the field.

Instead of filming at the park I was going to I decide to film at the park near to where I live due to the fact it was quiet at the time and if the footage didn't look right I could then film again and in one day as its very easy for me to get to.

Planning: Lighting

In my video I will be using both natural and artificial light. However I will also be editing the light in Photoshop and Premier Pro as well as other programmes.

Natural light: When I'm outside ill be using natural light as I don't have the lighting technology to be able to get the exact lighting I want to have using technology. I will be filming at the Tower of London and in a field as well as my street so I wouldn't have any control of what the lighting was  only that if its a dark night with lots of mist then I would have to wait till another day on where its lighter and more of an 'upbeat' lighting. However at the basics as an idea I could hold up a lamp or a torch under or above the object I wish to highlight so it would add some sort of light around it.

Artificial lighting: When filming inside I would be using artificial lighting especially when I film in the theatre. When filming inside I would be able to control whether the room is dark or light by turning the light on or off or opening or closing the curtains. However when filming inside I wouldn't have complete and full control over what the exact lighting is so I may have to budge on what the exact desired lighting is. As for filming in the theatre there is a massive amount of lighting technology in it so I would be able to pick the amount of light there is and even what colour the light is such as green or red. However in my video it likely ill  be only enhancing the natural light, not changing the colour. However in one shot outside there would be lighting within the shot so my prop would control what the lighting looked like.

Editing: Like in the picture above this is what I want however I may be able to edit my footage so I have the tree and lights in colour and the background pitch black or have the background distorted and the foreground in colour to show the importance of the tree and lights. I would also be able to  edit the footage so it is in black and white, this would have a vintage romantic olden feel to it.

                           Before it was edited:

After it was edited:

Planning: Shot List

Below is a rough shot list of how ideally I would like the shots to go:

In doing a shot list I now have a list of shots that I want to do in my video. This means I can print this off and when I go out to film I have this with me so I know what the shot is what and the action happening in it and how long the shot lasts. Its means I can break down the shot list further when on location to add in more shot angles and in locations like at the Tower of London I could have more shots and in having the shot list I can fit it in and make sure the timings work.

Planning: Casting

Casting that would need to be done and is massively important in planning my music video. In my music video I will be having both a boy and girl casted, they must both be bubbly and be able to act as if they are in a relationship. They would both need to be confident especially the girl as she would need to lip sync at various points. If the people don't have any confidence then it would be hard for the audience to engage and connect with the characters, they both would need a personality that the audience could enjoy watching. As for the lip syncing the girl would need to be comfortable having a camera in there face as they sing along to the track in the background.

In choosing my cast I would need to make sure they don't have a massively busy schedule so when I go to plan to film they would be free of free at certain points such as after 3:30 on a Thursday. This would ensure that once iv casted the couple I can then start to plan a schedule on when we can all film.
Character's for my filming- The Girls

For the casting of the girls I got them to lip sync as this would be very important in my music video.

Katie Miller:

When I asked Katie to lip sync to my song I found she struggled with it, I had to record a few times for her to be able to be confident enough to do it. However as for the rest her clothing is very  grown up and casual which is what I want in my music video for the girl character. However she may have been more confident if she had been given time to learn the lyrics to preform with. However she is very busy at the time I would need her to film due to her busy work schedule.

Tonicha Huges:

Again I found that Tonicha found it very hard to lip sync to my song as she didn't know the words to the song. She kept playing with her school tag and couldn't really look at the camera. However she is a drama student and maybe only struggled because she didn't know the words if she knew them maybe she would have been  more confident. Also because she is a drama student she would be able to act the part of the girl character which is very helpful. Like Katie however she is really busy and was unlikely to be available for when I needed her.

Amy Taylor:

She is a very likely candidate for my music video although she doesn't go to my school she lives very close to me which means it would be easy to catch up and do some filming. She cares very much about fashion which means she would likely have to right clothes id like to use for costume. She would be confident enough to act in front of the camera and with her bubbly personality she would be the perfect female character for my video. Along with Nico I have already done some practice filming with them and they worked together really well so its likely id use them both together due to their good relationship, which would be maintained in the music video. Due to the fact she was busy when I was doing the filming for the lip syncing I am yet to find out how confident she at it but she was comfortable acting so its likely she would be fine lip syncing.

The Boys

For the boys casting it was much easier as they don't sing so I didn't need them to lip sync however I needed them to hold hands with a girl to prove they had the confidence to pretend to be in a relationship.

Luke Gibson:

As the boy doesn't sing he does a lot of acting when included pretending to be in a relationship, that's way I got the male to hold a females hand to see if he is able to play the character. Luke played the part really well and was confident in front of the camera and didn't mind holding Tonchia's hand which shows he'd be a good actor in my music video. However this look 2 attempts to film due to the fact they couldn't stop laughing which shows although he has a bubbly personality it may be difficult to film with.

Nico Yazdi:

Due to the fact Nico was injured at the time of the casting process, instead of getting him to walk holding hands with a female I got him to explain why I should have him in the music video. In front of the camera he is very confident which is what I need in my music video. Also he says he has good time management which is massively needed in filming my music video. Also he is very bubbly which means that he'd be good in the character of being in a relationship. He has already said he'd be happy to help and be in my music video and I have already done some practice filming with him so he would be my male character in my music video. As he attends 6 form like me it would be easy to organise filming due to the fact he would finish school around the same time as me so we could sort filming quickly and I could see him around in school to organise filming as well.

From Research to Planning

Now iv researched music video's and my chosen artist I can now use all the information iv collected from the research process to start planning me music video.
In the planning stage there are certain sections I need to complete:
  • Casting
  • Location Planning
  • Costume Planning
  • Props Planning
  • Lighting Planning
  • Shot List
  • Filming Schedule

Planning: Practice with some of my videos

Over the summer holidays I did some independent filming to so I could practice editing with it to build up editing skills so I could then go on to use them in my final music video. I built up skills such as copying and pasting footage in different places and matching up continuity of when my characters walk down the street. In having a practice I now know what I can be capable of and in teaching myself new skills when it comes to editing the real music video I have some idea of what I want.
I can also see how good my filming was  and see where there is areas to improve on to make sure my video looks clean and to a high standard.

Research: Editing ideas from inspiration

Before Editing:
Before Editing this is what my footage looked like.

Black and white:
From the John Legend video which was in black and white I decided to try to edit some of my footage to make it so see what kind of effect it had on my video.

Firstly I needed to import the footage that I wanted to use.

One by One I brought in the footage.

After importing the footage I then clicked on 'Video Effects'.

Then on 'Image Control'.

Then I clicked on 'Black and White'

I then needed to hold the click to drop the 'Black and White' effect on each bit of footage.

In putting the footage in Black and White it had a romantic homemade vintage feel to it. The song its self has that kind of feel to it however it doesn't all have to be in Black and White when it comes to the editing stage I can have a play around to see which bits of footage looks best in Black and White.

Titles:
After watching Wilkinson Afterglow I decided to try out adding in all the numbers to see what effect it had.

Firstly I imported the footage that I wanted to use.

I clicked on 'Title' then 'New Title' than 'Default Still'.

I than had to name the title which I called '145 candles'.

I then clicked 'Ok' and this screen came up.

I then clicked on the 'T' button on the left hand side.

I then typed in '145 candles' in which it came up like this.

I was then able to change the font in which I did.

I then clicked on the mouse button.

I then on the right hand side went down to where there was a tick box for 'Shadow'.

I then clicked on the tick and it removed the shadow.

I then clicked on the colour box and then I had the choice to pick the colour.

I decided to pick a light pink colour.

After clicking off of it I was then able to import it.

I dragged it in to the 'Video 2' section above the footage where I wanted it to play on.

I then went to 'Video Transitions' on the left hand side.

I then clicked on 'Cross dissolve'.

This is what it then looked like.

Then after a certain amount it then dissolved.

This is what the footage looked like when I added in titles. It didn't look too bad however if I was going to use this in my video it have to take some time practicing the font the the font colour to ensure it looks professional. As at the moment it doesn't look very professional and the font doesn't work with the backgrounds. So this would be something that is a maybe to use.
